My girlfriend Kristine and i are quitting our jobs in Seattle, WA. Our last day is October 9th, 2009. We’ve already given our last month’s notice. We sold our BMW at the beginning of the month and the same day bought a 1993 Eurovan CL, which will be our new home starting October. We’ll wrap up and shed our entangled work lives and leave shortly thereafter.

We’re leaving for ‘Index’, which is a place that was given a supernatural definition by a good friend of mine. Here’s it is:

Index.- a new word for anything awesome that someone does, or wants to do, every weekend.

This was the inspiration for the title of or blog–and so a big ‘thank you’ to Darren Streff, who’s also responsible for teaching me at least 20% of my vocabulary and anything related to culture. So Kristine and I will be turning our lives into Index. It’ll be so Index. We’ll Index everyday. We’ll dream of Index, and then wake up and be Indexing.

And Index came about because every weekend since the summer started Kristine and I would either dream of going rock climbing up at Index, WA, or we’d actually do it. Come Monday I’d be talking with Darren about the weekend, I’d say Index about five times, he’d say something witty like ‘original’. And so the word Index came along.

October 10th, 2009: If the weather is decent we’ll climb around Seattle, mainly at Index, before heading over to visit Kristine’s parents in Coeur d’Alene, ID. We’ll be there for a week and then the Indexing will begin, though the destination is dependent on good weather. Ideally we’d spend two or three weeks at Smith Rock near Bend, OR. Then head down to Utah, possibly stopping to climb at City of Rocks in Southern Idaho. In Utah we’ll meet up with a long time best friend of mine, Keith ‘Iron-fingers’ Beisner. We’ll Index in Utah long enough to climb Supercrack and any other classical crack climbs, or at least as many of them as our hands, fingers, and body let us.

From there it all depends on time and weather. We’ll be celebrating Christmas this year at my parents house in Kansas City, KS. We’ll climb, hike, explore, and Index as much as possible before that, and we’ll keep heading South as the winter weather nips at our heels.

Kansas City will be a new chapter and the blog will hold its breath for another road trip to Index.

Cheers to Index!
